Applied Dynamical Systems
Applied dynamical systems is the research field which investigates systems that evolve in time according to a given rule and relate to applications in the sciences. A dynamical system is a mathemtical structure that allows to model a wide variety of problems, in particular from physics.
Our research has a particular focus on pattern formation, nonlinear waves and coherent structures. We also consider fluid flows, e.g. Rayleigh-Benard convection; for instance below is a video by the PostDoc Roland Welter:
